Professional Profile After leaving Manchester University (UMIST) with a degree in mathematics I joined Marconi Radar Systems, Leicester as a Systems Engineer. After four years at Marconi I took up a teaching post at New College Durham and remained there for over 20 years. During this time I co-authored a number of IT textbooks. After leaving New College I started a small publishing house with  business partner and became a full-time author and publisher specializing in IT textbooks and online educational material. We discontinued the company in 2007 and currently I  do freelance computer work, mostly relating to website design and construction.
